Website and Ink & Lantern purchase terms

These terms cover this website and the intended Early Release offering of Ink & Lantern – Writer’s Study, version 0.11.0 for Windows. Ink & Lantern – Writer’s Study 0.11.0 for Windows is available for download, free during the current trial period. Purchasing is not currently available. No payment can be made from this website yet.

Who we are

Slightly Unhinged Software is a trading name of Dean Gavin Wilson, a New Zealand sole trader. NZBN 9429053924933.

Price and payment

The Early Release price is NZ$49 one-time for one personal licence. There is no subscription. When purchasing is activated, purchases will be made through the approved checkout. Payment alone does not activate the application; activation also requires your Installation ID and a supplied licence file.

Personal two-computer licence

One personal licence covers use on up to two personal Windows computers. Each installation requires its own installation-specific .illicense file. A second personal computer does not require a second purchase.

Perpetual use of the purchased version

The licence provides perpetual offline use of the purchased version, with no recurring online activation check. It does not promise inclusion of all future major versions or upgrades.

Manual licence delivery

  1. Purchase through the approved checkout when purchasing is activated.
  2. Install Ink & Lantern.
  3. At the opening screen choose Licence Management → Copy Installation ID.
  4. Email the complete Installation ID and purchase reference to hello@slightlyunhingedsoftware.com.
  5. After payment is verified and the complete Installation ID is received, we manually prepare and email the installation-specific licence file within one New Zealand business day.
  6. Choose Licence Management → Import paid licence and select the supplied .illicense file.

The delivery period begins only after both verified payment and receipt of the complete Installation ID. A New Zealand business day is Monday–Friday, excluding New Zealand national public holidays, measured in New Zealand time.

Fixed full-feature trial

The full-feature trial runs from 1 October through 30 November 2026. It is a fixed calendar trial, not a rolling trial. Installing later does not extend it. Full-feature trial access ends at the start of 1 December 2026.

After expiry, users can still open and read existing work, export their work and create portable project backups. Continued writing requires a paid licence; existing writing remains accessible.

Second computers, replacements and recovery

For your second personal Windows computer, email that installation’s complete Installation ID and the same purchase reference. We provide a separate installation-specific licence file without a second purchase, subject to the two-computer allowance.

For replacement computers, reinstallation, lost licence files or recovery, contact support. Replacements are handled through support rather than creating an automatic third allocation.

14-day money-back assurance

We offer a voluntary 14-day money-back assurance. The period starts when your first usable installation-specific licence file is delivered. A second-computer licence, replacement or resend does not restart the period.

To request a refund under the assurance, email hello@slightlyunhingedsoftware.com within that 14-day period with your purchase reference.

New Zealand consumer rights

Applicable New Zealand consumer rights are not limited by the voluntary 14-day money-back assurance or these terms. The assurance is additional to those rights.

Product information and changes

We try to keep website and product information accurate and current. Ink & Lantern is an Early Release product. Information about future features and release plans may change and is not a promise that future major versions or upgrades are included in a purchase.

Detailed supported Windows versions and system requirements will be confirmed with the approved release. Purchasing remains unavailable until activated. The Windows installer is available for download, free during the current trial period.

Intellectual property

Unless stated otherwise, this website, its branding, written content and original visual material belong to Slightly Unhinged Software. You may view and link to the website for ordinary personal or business purposes, but may not reproduce or commercially reuse its content without permission.

Third-party services

The website may link to services operated by others. Their own terms and privacy practices apply, and we are not responsible for their content or operation.

Website liability

To the extent permitted by New Zealand law, we are not responsible for loss arising solely from reliance on general website information or from temporary website unavailability. Nothing in these terms limits rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

See our Privacy notice for current website information handling. Purchasing is not active; the notice will be updated to cover the actual commercial process before commerce is activated.
